The Redox Biology Center (RBC) is organized as a broad-based interdisciplinary and multi-institutional entity involving researchers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha (UNMC). The RBC is funded by the National Institute of Health grant P20 RR017675 from the COBRE program of the National Center for Research Resources.
The specific aims of the COBRE-supported Redox Biology Center (RBC) are to buttress and expand the existing strengths in redox biology in Nebraska by mentoring junior faculty to success, recruiting new faculty with complementary research interests and strategically enhancing biomedical research structure. Scientists are amalgamated from two major research institutions in the state (UNL and UNMC).

Membership
The Redox Biology Center welcomes applications from faculty at UNL or UNMC who are interested in being considered for membership. We are particularly interested in further broadening our base to include members whose research interests are in the general area of redox biology and who would benefit from and contribute to the activities sponsored by the RBC. Redox Biology Center Highlights
6/17/2013 - Hatch Equipment funding was awarded to Don Becker, Redox Biology Center Director. He and six other RBC members submitted a successful proposal to ARD for an UltiMate 3000 HPLC system. Dr. Becker wrote "The new HPLC will enable UNL faculty to conduct state-of-the-art research requiring separation, isolation and quantification of key molecules from complex biological mixtures." The new equipment will be installed in the George W. Beadle Center by October 2013.
3/28/2013 - Redox Biology Center announces new funding opportunities. The RBC is now accepting applications for two grant opportunities; Pilot Grant Program and Exploratory Grant Program. 3/26/2013 - Don Becker, Redox Biology Center Director, was named as Charles Bessey Professor of Biochemistry. Charles Bessey Professorship is awarded to full professors in recognition of distingued scholarship or creative activity. 2/19/2013 - Congratulations to Chandirasegaran Massilamany. Chandirasegaran, member of Dr. Jay Reddy's lab, received a grant from the Myocarditis Foundation for the project, "Delineating the Role of Cardiac Myosin-Specific CD8 T Cells in Autoimmune Myocarditis."
11/29/2012 - Redox Biology Center member, Jim Alfano, Charles Bessey Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology, has been named as Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), for distinguished contributions in research of plant pathogens. The AAAS Fellows is a peer-designated seletion based on scientifically or socially distinguished efforts among scientists to advance science or its application.

11/19/2012 - Redox Biology Center member, Rodrigo Franco, Ph.D. and his post-docs, Humberto Rodriguez-Rocha, Aracely Garcia-Garcia, and Laura Zavala-Flores, had their paper "Glutaredoxin 1 Protects Dopaminergic Cells by Increased Protein Glutathionylation in Experimental Parkinson's Disease" highlighted in the most recent edition of the journal Antioxidants & Redox Signaling. In addition to the publication, eight students from Redox Biology Center affiliated labs were selected to present abstracts of their research at this year's Society for Free Radical Biology and Medicine (SFRBM) conference in San Diego. Aracely Garcia-Garcia, Post-Doc, and Humberto Rodriguez-Rocha, Post-Doc, of Dr. Franco's lab were asked to give oral presentations. Erin Rosenbaugh, graduate student, and Adam Case, Post-Doc, of Dr. Matthew Zimmerman's lab were both awarded Young Investigator Awards. Humberto Rodriguez-Rocha received a Travel Award.

August 7, 2013 - REU Summer Research Symposium. This research symposium will showcase the hardwork of all students who participated in REU program at UNL this summer. The symposium will be held from 1PM-3PM at the City Union and is open to the public.
September 10, 2013 - BIOC/RBC Semester Seminar Series begins.
September 27, 2013 - RBC Monthly Seminar Series begins. The series will begin with a lecture by Melissa Teoh-Fitzgerald, PhD, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Nebraska Medical Center.
