The ranch is located in north central Nebraska, 35 miles south of Valentine in the heart of the Sandhills. Valentine is a beautiful town and is close to many fun summer vacation spots/activities including: tubing down the Niobrara, the National wildlife refuge, Blackhills of South Dakota, Sturgis Bike Rally and much more.

The ranch is in southeast Cherry County, seven miles northwest of Purdum on the North Loup river.  This year we have 650 commercial black cows to calve.  We are traditionally a calf to yearling operation, but due to the drought, the yearlings had to go, along with 200 mother cows.  The AI heifers will start calving the end of February.  Cows start right behind them beginning of March.  We are on horseback most of the day February through May.  We use a 4 wheeler to night calve on.  In April while we are finishing up calving, we are feeding, doctoring and getting ready to go to grass, which consist of fencing and windmill work.  In May, we are pairing out and going to grass, going to brandings, bringing replacement heifers home from backgrounders and AI ing. 

We are looking for a student with ranching background.  Someone who has actually worked on a ranch, not just lived on one.  They must have horse experience and would be a big plus if they had their own horse.  They must be responsible, honest, punctual, etc.

AquaSpy is looking for a college intern for the 2013 summer (early May-August). This is a paid position that will provide interns with field experience in the farming industry. Interns will travel to different locations across the Western NE or Northern NE areas to install/service/extract field equipment in crops.
Requirements:
• Willing to travel up to 3 hours from home
• Strong interpersonal skills, self-starter, and ability to work independently
• Willing to work Saturday’s
• Agricultural background/major
• Able to use Excel, and Outlook
• Able to use Google earth and a GPS
• Have your own vehicle (preferable)
Some flexibility of hours will be required and will be available to the intern. Interns will work independently, with moderate supervision. Interns will be responsible for planning out their daily route. When technical service calls decrease, interns will have the opportunity to work with the sales representatives in their area. This will include but is not limited to working with farmers.

Willcoxon and Brown LLC (W&B) is a diversified Ranch and Farm Operation. In its over 40 years of operation, W&B now manages about 9,000 acres, growing wheat, corn, alfalfa on its farming land and running over 700 cattle in a cow/calf operation on its ranch land. Equipment such as, 9300 and 8360R John Deere tractors, 9770 John Deer combine, 1770 CCS John Deer planter, 4370 John Deer sprayer etc., operate under State of the Art GPS and Computer control.
