Fraction of land irrigated in Nebraska
Nebraska has more sprinkler irrigated land than any other state — 72% (predominantly with center pivots). Gravity irrigation is used on about 28% of the land in Nebraska with the majority of the gravity irrigated land using furrow systems. Subsurface drip irrigation systems have recently found acceptance for row crops in the High Plains but are only used on a small portion of the land. The types of systems used in Nebraska are similar to neighboring states, as shown in the chart.
