Canine Companions For Life 4-H Expo

The 2013 Canine Companions for Life Dog Expo will be held April 19 and 20.

The Canine Companions for Life 4-H Dog Expo is moving to the spring. This will be a one day, educational event that will allow for youth to learn more about dog care, careers, and dog training. The 4-H youth will also have a chance to show their dogs on the 20th. On the 19th there will be a Pool Party and Quiz Bowl, with the events starting at 7PM. Events on the 20th will begin at 9AM and will last until approximately 5:30PM.

 

5 show rings with opportunities to exhibit in:

  • Showmanship
  • Obedience
  • Agility
  • Clover kid showmanship (open to all youth under age 8, free of charge)
  • Costume
  • Dog tricks

Show rules and guidelines:

 

Show class rules: All show classes will follow the guidelines inthe Nebraska 4-H Dog Show Manual (4-H 419) and the guidelines outlined for theNebraska 4-H State Fair. There is no limit on the number of classes ofparticipation as long as the dog and the participant are showing in anappropriate class for their level of experience (no more than one dog perclass).  All dogs participating in theshow must be immunized within the last 12 months of the show for distemper,hepatitis, parvovirus, and rabies. Dogs must have a completed vaccination form deliveredwith the completed registration form.  Ifthe participant has a copy of their 2012 State Fair Dog show vaccination form,it may be included in lieu of completing a new form.  A Certificate of Vaccination for Dogs (FormSF 263) is enclosed for your convenience.  Dogs that do not have a completed vaccinationform will not be allowed in any the Adams County Fairgrounds buildings at thetime of show.  As long as propervaccination forms are provided, participants are allowed to bring a differentdog for each show class.  All participatingdogs must be at least 6 months of age at the time of the show. Females inseason will not be allowed to participate in the show.

Dress code:  Exhibitors must follow dress code regulations as described in the Nebraska 4-H Dog Show Manual (4-H 419) with the following exceptions:  An exhibitor may wear a non-county specific 4-H shirt, a Canine Companions for Life Nebraska 4-H Dog Expo t-shirt, or a a State fair t-shirt.  Shirts with specific county 4-H notations are not allowed to be worn in the show arena.  Nebraska Dog Expo t-shirts are available by pre-order with the Expo registration form.

Dog handling rules:  Rough handling of dogs by participant or parent at any time throughout the Expo is not allowed and if this behavior is observed the participant will be dismissed without refund.  Participating animals are not allowed to remain in the Adams County Fairgrounds buildings overnight.  Please keep all dogs on a leash at all times unless instructed to do so in a show ring or clinic.  All participating dogs must be under control and under good behavior at all times.  A dog crating area has been designated to allow exhibitors to securely hold their dogs when not involved in a show class.  Handlers are expected to pick up and dispose of all dog waste. 

Registration information:

The cost to participate is $20.00 for one day of all classes and clinics. If desired, a Canine Companions for Life Nebraska 4-H Dog Expo t-shirt can be purchased for $10. Registration checks should be made payable to: University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
